Amazon Gift Cards
Customer Refund Policy
Effective Date: June 2026
1. Overview
This policy outlines the refund and return guidelines applicable to all Amazon Gift Cards, physical gift cards, digital gift cards (e-gift cards), and bulk/B2B gift cards issued across Amazon marketplaces (including but not limited to Amazon.ae).
Amazon Gift Cards are prepaid stored-value instruments. Once purchased and/or activated, they carry a monetary value that can be redeemed for eligible products and services on the applicable Amazon.ae marketplace.
2. Non-Refundable & Non-Returnable Policy
Amazon Gift Cards are non-refundable, non-returnable, and non-exchangeable. Once a gift card has been purchased, activated, or the claim code has been revealed, it cannot be:
- Returned for a cash refund
- Exchanged for a different denomination or currency
- Converted to cash, cheque, or bank transfer
- Transferred to another Amazon account (once redeemed)
- Resold or redistributed outside the terms of the original purchase agreement
This policy applies to all gift cards regardless of the purchase channel (online, retail, B2B portal, or third-party reseller).
3. Rationale
Amazon Gift Cards are classified as cash-equivalent stored-value instruments. The non-refundable policy is in place for the following reasons:
- Stored Monetary Value: Gift cards carry a specific monetary value upon activation. Unlike physical products, the value is immediately accessible and usable, making reversal impractical.
- Fraud & Abuse Prevention: Allowing refunds on activated gift cards creates significant fraud risk, including double-spending, social engineering, and money laundering.
- Irreversibility of Redemption: Once a gift card code is revealed or redeemed to an Amazon account balance, the value cannot be traced or recovered.
- Industry Standard: This policy is consistent with industry-wide practices for prepaid and stored-value instruments across all major retailers and digital platforms.
4. Exceptions
In limited circumstances, Amazon may, at its sole discretion, consider a refund or replacement. Exceptions may include:
- Technical/System Error: If a duplicate charge occurred due to a system error, or the gift card was not delivered/activated correctly due to a platform malfunction.
- Defective Physical Card: If a physical gift card was received damaged or with no value loaded, and the claim code has not been revealed or redeemed.
- Regulatory Requirement: Where applicable local laws or regulations mandate a refund under specific conditions (e.g., consumer protection laws in certain jurisdictions).
